Johnnie Walker Classic

Spread Betting News (Sporting Index)

Summary: Bets 6, Wins 2, Losses 4, Loss 23 Pts. Poor results again on the "European" Tour. Some results just defy logic like Lonard losing by 10 to Choi given past stats.

Pre Round One Trades

Sell Richard Green over Robert Karlsson 18H MB at 3 with Sporting Index for 0.25 Pts M/U 28, Loss 6.25 Pts
Course form is suspect this week as the Vines course has been modified somewhat but you can still use it as a guide. Karlsson has an 8th place here on his last visit and his tour record is ok with 5 top 25’s in his last 6 events. Green is the obvious favourite but is possibly overpriced at 3-6. Please note this match starts later tonight

Sell Andrew Coltart over Simon Yates 18H MB at 0 with Sporting Index for 0.25 Pts M/U -19, Profit 4.75 Pts
Coltart has a great record on this tour when going back 10 years but his most recent visits since 2002 are 2 missed cuts, two 64th’s and a 19th. He played ok on the Middle East events without ever threatening and is paired with fellow Scot, Yates, who normally plays his golf in Asia. In head to heads’ over three years, Yates leads 9-4 by event and 8-3 in R1 scores only so is possible value in this match tomorrow.

Sell Andrew Coltart over Scott Laycock 18H MB at 1 with IG Sport for 0.25 Pts M/U -13, Profit 3.5 Pts
Local player, Laycock, has ok form on this tour, making most cuts (only 5 missed in 37 events since 2000) and has played ok at this course. Compare his MC record to Coltart’s who has missed nearly 2 in 5 cuts in events played over the last couple of years, admittedly though on a harder tour. In head to heads since 2000 Laycock leads 5-4 in events and 13-11 in round by round matches.

Buy Peter Lonard over K.J. Choi at 3 with Sporting Index for 0.25 Pts M/U -40, Loss 10.75 Pts

Choi is coming off a MC in the Buick and hasn’t played here for 7 years whereas Lonard has a 13 from 15 strike rate in Top 10’s on this tour since late 02’ and has won 5 of them. Lonard should arguably be as much as 3-6 here on those stats.

Buy Peter Lonard over Ian Poulter at 4 with IG Sport for 0.25 Pts M/U -25, Loss 7.25 Pts
Reasons for Lonard posted above, the reason to support him twice is the fact that Poulter has a so-so record here with 2 MCs (one of which at this venue), a 67th, a 3rd, 25th, and a 13th. His record this year is 10/43/47 from the three Middle East events so possibly Lonard should be a heavier favourite than he is priced at by IG.

Buy Damien McGrane over Ross Fisher at 3 with Sporting Index for 0.25 Pts M/U -25, Loss 7 Pts

McGrane has only played twice on this tour, both in 05’, and after a poor first event finished 7th in the NZ Open last February. It’s a first visit for Fisher who has played most of 05’ on the Challenge tour and it’s also a first event for him this year whilst McGrane has two Top 25’s in the three Middle East events played over the last 3 weeks. Everything suggest McGrane should be a stronger favourite here than he is.
