M/U 0, Profit -0.27 pts
With a great run of form through the middle part of '04, Ames has
finally played himself into the WGC events and tees up this week at
Firestone against a player with a course record of 10/4/2/6. Strangely
though, Sporting make Ames the slight favourite which is no doubt based
on Furyk being injured earlier in the year and of course Ames being top
10 at Whistling Straits. Ames though had chances to win on Sunday and
fell away poorly. That may play on his mind and it may be worth siding
with the proven course specialist in this match up.

Buy Chad Campbell at 31
with
Sporting Index M/U 69.5, Profit 19.25 pts
As low as 29 with a 50
ceiling at Cantor, the extra 2 points are worth the risk as Campbell has
done nothing much of note recently and it is not impossible that he
could finish outside the Top 50 this week. Three missed cuts in his last
six events with a 19th at the International his best showing suggests 31
is low.
Buy Adam Scott at 28
with
Spreadex M/U 56, Profit 14 pts
Scott shot 80 here last year after an indifferent start
in his only NEC so far. Looking at his overall annual record he seems to
either produce Top 10's or fall away cheaply. In 16 strokeplay events
this year, he has 8 Top 12's, 5 missed cuts and the other 3 finishes
were 35, 32 and 42. Not one place in 16 attempts between 12th and 34th.
This may just be a trick of the numbers but certainly suggests he is a
good FP buy if not up with the pace going into the latter stages.
Buy Sergio Garcia at 29 with
Sporting Index M/U 17, Profit -6 pts
Garcia has won twice this year but otherwise it has been a disappointing
year where he has been very poor in the bigger events. Finishes of
4/20/cut/cut in the majors, 53rd at Sawgrass and a 1st Round exit at the
Matchplay are a poor return compared to his record in week-to-week
events. At 29 in a big field with the potential M/U being 25+ places
above 50, we have a bit of value.
Buy Stephen Ames FP at
29 with
Spreadex M/U
24, Profit -2.5 pts
In his last 15 events, Ames has placed Top 15 ten times and missed the
other 5 cuts. It's a record similar to Scott's and we are betting to
numbers here with the hope that if its a poor week which seems to happen
33% of the time it will give us a large profit.
