FINAL RESULT: 2-1; +1.84pts
Sullivan/Charles WON by 12
Lye/Longmuir WON by 2
Nelson/Crenshaw LOST by 3
Small profit to offset the losses on the outrights. Still a very poor
event overall.
Matchup plays (2pts each):
Mike Sullivan to beat Bob Charles -140 @

Strange matchup. Sullivan is a regular on this Tour and even though he
is not the most competitive player, he did finish 15th in the Outback
Steakhouse Pro-Am in February, whereas Charles has yet to make an
appearance on Tour this season and his last top-30 finish was back in
2004. Needless to say, Sullivan has prevailed in five of their last six
common events, so deserves to be a stronger favourite.
Mark Lye to beat Bill Longmuir +102 @
Five

Will side with the part-timer in this matchup. Longmuir gained
eligibility to play on this Tour via the Q-School last year, but has a
best finish of only 46th in eight Champions Tour starts. Lye, by
contrast, finished higher than that in his sole start this year and has
performed much better over the last few years even though he now devotes
more time to being an analyst on the Golf Channel. With course
experience also in his favour, Lye is certainly the wrong player to have
as the underdog in this match.
Larry Nelson to beat Ben Crenshaw -110 @
The Greek
This is a price based on Crenshaw's Masters performance and that is
something he has not really been able to replicate on this Tour. He has
finished ahead of Nelson just once in the last six months and has
finished behind Nelson in each of the three years that they have played
this course; on the last two occasions, the winning margins have been
nine and ten shots respectively. Nelson certainly warrants further
support this week with this matchup. |
