TPC Stonebrae was designed by David McLay Kidd and opened in 2007 to the accolaide of being 'one of the best new courses for 2007' by a number of golf magazines. It is a championship layout and comprises of five par 5s so it would be advised to look for a player who manages to score well on these holes. There is no coincidence that the winners and runner's up in the Stonebrae Classic read like a who's who of young and exciting talent now on the PGA Tour, this course obviously squeezes the attributes of the best players. Players such as Tony Finau, Daniel Berger, Kevin Chappell, Russell Knox and David Hearn have all challenged for the title here and are now challenging on the main tour so it would be advised to plump for a player who looks like he will cut the mustard when stepping up a grade. The best stat to follow for this is the All-Around ranking and that is what I will be focussing on mainly this week. My Picks are as follows:
Jamie Lovemark - 1pt WIN @ 16/1 - I advise a win only bet on Lovemark as he is a worthy favourite at small odds and there isnt really much value each way. He is the sort of player who will challenge when making the step up a grade as proved in the US Open where he finished 18th. A hugely depleted field this week will play further into his hands and I do expect him to be there or there abouts come Sunday evening. Kelly Kraft - 0.5pts e/w @ 50/1 - Kraft finished 18th here last year and opened with a 63, a year when he wasnt in particuarly good form. This year he comes here in much better form, a winner in Louisiana and a runner up at the BMW Pro-Am. He sits in 22nd for the All Around ranking and 1st in the Par 3 Birdie or Better stat. Rick Cochran - 0.25pts e/w @ 66/1 - Cochran has had a solid first yearon the Web.com with five top 10s already, his most recent coming last week in Idaho at the Boise Open. He is 8th in the Par 3 Birdie or Better stat and should far well here if he can continue his form from last week over to this weeker field. Adam Long - 0.25pts e/w @ 125/1 - Sitting proudly in 8th in the All Around ranking, Long was as high as 2nd before last week where he missed the cut. He has had a mixed bag this year, with a runner up finish and a 4th bundled with a host of average finishes and missed cuts. He does have the ability to go low and I'm hoping he can do that here at a big price.
Total Staked - 3pts
