Matchup Picks - Champions Tour

Tipster: Stanley

Odds: Matchups

U.S. Senior Open

FINAL RESULT: 2-0; +6.00pts

Weibring/Quigley WON by 4
Weibring/Smyth WON by 4

At least Weibring's wobble didn't jeopardise these plays as well.

Matchup plays (2pts unless stated)

D.A. Weibring to beat Dana Quigley -111 @ Centrebet
Backing Weibring to have a very good week with two more plays. Quigley looks as though he should be fit enough to play this week after having had acupuncture, shiatsu massage and three hours of therapy on his hip every day last week, but even if he were fully fit, he should struggle to beat Weibring. In eight previous attempts in this event he has never finished in the top-10, whereas Weibring finished 6th on his debut last year. And after Quigley finished 1st and 2nd in the first two events of 2005, his head-to-head record against Weibring is poor: in 13 common events, Weibring has prevailed nine times, Quigley three times and they have tied once. This should be another Weibring top-10 and a higher finish than Quigley.

D.A. Weibring to beat Des Smyth -111 @ Paddy Power [4pts]
Five Dimes make Weibring -130 and that is still is huge understatement, in my opinion. The most consistent player on Tour against someone who lost a playoff for the Senior British Open last week. Not only is the travelling a factor, but so is the mental letdown from spurning such great chances for victory and the complete reversal in climactic conditions: from the cold and 30mph winds of Aberdeen, the players were greeted with stifling 100 degree heat on Monday. Weibring finished nine shots ahead of Smyth last year and has finished ahead of him in four of their last five common events, so there is clearly a strong home bias in Paddy Power's pricing of this match.
