Matchup Picks - LPGA Tour

Tipster: Stanley

Odds: Matchups

Samsung World Championship

FINAL RESULT: 3-0; +6.00pts

Baena/Kim WON by 3
Kane/Kim WON by 1
Ward/Kim WON by 3

Kim did finish (joint) last as predicted and while the sweep did ensure the event finished in profit overall, they should have been more comfortable wins.

Matchup plays (1.5pts unless stated):

Marisa Baena to beat Birdie Kim -123 @ Expekt
Can't find too many matchups that I like, but will always look to oppose the U.S. Women's Open champion while she is still overpriced because of that win. Kim has a best finish of 29th since that win in June, has never played this course before now and has a best finish of 36th in California. Of the 17 books pricing up this event, she is the highest odds in 14 of them. And against Baena who had a top-10 finish two weeks ago, she trails 28-3-0 in the last 31 common events.

Lorie Kane to beat Birdie Kim -120 @ Centrebet
Some books have Kane as joint-last player in their market and she is admittedly in poor form, but she still has a 5-1-0 h2h record against Kim in strokeplay events since that U.S. Women's Open win. And whereas Kim is making her debut in one of these end-of-season restricted-field events, Kane is a veteran of these, playing in this particular event every year from 1998-2003 and finishing no worse than 11th every times.

Wendy Ward to beat Birdie Kim -161 @ NordicBet [3pts]
Ward is most in-form of the three players to oppose Kim and shares with Baena the distinction of averaging over one shot per round better than Kim on the LPGA Tour this year; Kane averages two-thirds of a shot better per round. She has missed only one cut in North America since her opening event in February and comes into this event on the back of two top-25 finishes in California over the last two weeks. She may not be good enough to win this event, but there is still a large gulf between her and Kim.
