Outright Picks - LPGA Tour

Tipster: Stanley

Odds: Outright

Nabisco Championship

FINAL RESULT: 1-2; +0.00pts

Webb 44th
Kerr 3rd
Wie 14th

Okay, so Annika won yet again and in style, but betting to the 'w/o Sorenstam' market would have produced a loss as it was Rosie Jones who finished 2nd in another surprisingly impressive performance. Kerr made the payout rather uncertain with a late double-bogey, but just did enough to guarantee a full place payout, while Wie finished four shots out of the places - the same number of shots she dropped in the final four holes on Saturday.

Outright plays (total stake per play: 1.5pts)

Karrie Webb to win 16/1 e.w. @ BlueSq and GolfingGods
It is commonly assumed that players who are the midst of contention the week before a major, do not do as well as typically expected during that major week. And with a record of two major wins from seven previous occasions when she won the preceding week, maybe this is a week to avoid the the 'w/o Sorenstam' market and concentrate on players who were out of contention last week. That applies to all three selections, including Webb, whose 26th place finish is not a concern as she carried on her good late season form of 2004 into this year with a win in Australia and a 2nd place in Mexico. So with four top-3 finishes in the last six years on this course, she looks a strong candidate to win.

Cristie Kerr to win 20/1 e.w. @ BetInternet
Retained as a selection from last week when she finished 18th, but with top-3 finishes in her previous two starts this year and a top-8 finish in her previous six starts, she is clearly a player in form. And with a course form that reads two top-5 finishes in three years (and only 11th on the other occasion), she should also be supported at these odds.

Michelle Wie to win 25/1 e.w. @ Ladbrokes
Maybe this will be like 2003, when I backed Ochoa almost every time as her odds were very attractive for an upcoming player, but she just couldn't secure that maiden Tour win. Well, I'm backing Wie again on the basis that these odds are too high. In the past two years, she has finished 4th and 9th here and has shown enough form this year to suggest that she could still dominate this Tour in years to come.
