Outright Picks - European Tour

Tipster: Stanley

Celtic Manor Resort Wales Open (1pt):

Phillip Price to win 25/1 e.w. @ Sportingbet, Sporting Odds and Victor Chandler
Price is a player in good form and looks excellent value at this price even if his nerve is not the best under pressure. He was 2nd after two rounds of the Volvo PGA Championship and still had a chance of victory until his last round, he finished 23rd the week beforehand and was the leader after three rounds of the China Masters in his previous tournament before finishing 3rd. Add to that a course history of 5th (2000), 14th (2001) and 7th (last year when 2nd with one round to play) and the fact that he lives only a few miles from the course and has played it many times. Definitely value at 25/1.

Nick O'Hern to win 66/1 e.w. @ Stan James
Another player whose inability to close out events is well-documented. Would prefer top-10 place-only, but Paddy Power offer only half these outright odds so there will be little value there. He does have good course form with finishes of 5th and 8th in 2000 and 2001, plus 26th on his return in 2003. He is in decent enough form to be competitive with a top-5 finish earlier this month at the British Masters so there should be a decent chance of a return, particularly if coming off the pace.

Paul McGinley to finish in the top-five 11/1 @ SkyBet
And a third who tends to contrive a finish off the podium places. That may be a little unfair as he did finish 2nd in the Dubai Desert Classic in March and already has finishes of 14th in the Asian Open and 5th in the British Masters this month, plus he is a former winner of this event in 2001 when it was reduced to 36 holes and he did finish 6th the following years, but he still warrants more attention on the place-only than each-way markets. A good price for this type of player.

Final update: 1-2; +5.75pts

Price 49th
O'Hern 4th
McGinley 41st

Good showing from O'Hern who had no chance of catching the leaders, but had a strong front nine on Sunday to get himself into the places. The back nine was predictably less impressive, but it was enough to ensure a decent profit on the plays.
