Betfair Picks - European Tour

Tipster: Shaker

Volvo Masters @ Betfair

Summary:
3 pts lost and never a hope really. This column didn't make a single week's European profit for the last 4 months of the season, rarely threatened to and ended up losing 13 pts on the season after being over 50 pts up in the first week of May. I'm confident I've been talking sense, getting a bit of value and giving good reasoning for my selections, but there's no getting away from the fact it's been a real struggle.

Selection 1 Back:
Lee Westwood 3 pts @ 16/1
(BlueSq or Coral / Eurobet)
Disappointed that he is virtually a point lower on Betfair at the time of writing, with no sign the price is about to lengthen, so I'll have to go with the traditional bookies for this bet. I really don't like going this low for an outright bet and I am therefore going to change recent strategy with regards to any possible laying at shorter odds - any laying will be decided in between play and will only be done if he is very short odds at one of those stages.
Westwood's recent form on European soil reads 2/10/4/MC/9/13/5 and the last times he played here when showing anything like that level of consistently good form, he finished 4th and 2nd in '99 and '00 respectively. His long game has been top-notch for a good while now, since returning from the wilderness, but his putting had been letting him down on a regular basis so it's good to see that has turned around in the last 3 months (2nd for Putting Average in 3 top class events, the British Open, the WGC-NEC and the WGC-AmEx in Ireland). He was super in both the recent Ryder Cup and Wentworth Matchplay matches too, and all-in-all looks worthy of support even at these un-speculative odds.
