Spread Picks - European Tour

Tipsters: Andy & Shaker

Turespana Mallorca Classic

Finishing Position Trades, staking 0.5pts. (Andy)

Buy Jose Maria Olazabal at 22 with IG Sport M/U 10, Loss 6 pts. A good R4 gave us a loss on the bet but results elsewhere made it a good week.

Both advices are actually selections of Stanley on the "outright" page. One thing that has to be realised when betting on spreads is that you are not as such backing or opposing a player but his price on offer. For Stanley's bet to come up he has 25/1 he wins and a fraction of that that he places. We are betting here on a completely separate market of whether on average Olazabal would beat 22 under these conditions were we able to play out the event an infinite number of times. Looking away from his PGA form to European only, Olly has missed the cut in four of his ten events this year (including one in Spain) and has cleared 22 only twice. At the price I would rather be a buyer than a seller which you can do at Spreadex.

Buy Brian Davis at 22 with IG Sport M/U 39.5, Profit 8.75 pts. Davis was never really a threat and a loss here would only have happened with a low score in R4 like Olazabal.

Similarly here, Davis trades at 22 with IG when his home tour form has been sketchy at best these last few months. A 12th last week, in completely different conditions at St Andrews, is Brian's first Top 20 since back in March in Qatar. Of course he has great local form in Spanish events but that has been factored into the price and by just a little too much. For me both players are realistically about the 24/25 mark and I would certainly not advocate a play either in support or opposition at those prices but at 22 both players are worthy of interest.
